A correct feeding system in rearing is very important for optimal rearing results. As birds in rearing are restricted severely in feed, competition for feed is high. If the feed distribution is too slow or not equal, this will have a negative influence on uniformity.

A good standard is that all feed should be distributed equally within 4 minutes. If feeder space is limited, skip-a-day methods are often used, to allow more birds to get a sufficient quantity of feed and reduce competition. However, this method is actually not preferred as it is an indicator of too limited feeder space or slow feed distribution.

Feeding systems in rearing that force birds to move more and to overcome height differences have a beneficial effects on leg strength and behavior of the birds, which can be noticed later in production
